‘Painting Materials’ – Experiments

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well & safe. It’s incredible that although I have been at home all these months so much has changed! I certainly feel grateful that I can indulge myself in the world of art in the comfort of my home.

Painting all these months has been a great fun but lately, I have been thinking more and more about the materials that I use. As you know, some painting techniques require the use of more materials than others. This does not include just paints but also flow media, pouring media, cell activators etc. Furthermore, some of the materials have very strong odours and some are even toxic. I have, therefore, decided to put my art conservation hat on, raid my cupboards of chemicals & pure conservation materials and start a quest of making my own painting materials.

I will start with making my own paints by using pure pigments mixed with different binders and see which ones would be the most suitable ones for my paintings. I will then experiment with making my own pouring media and cell activators. Of course, using my own varnishes is a must … unless I decide to seal the paintings in a layer of clear resin (UV resistant for longevity)J.

I am so excited about this project. Please wish me luck and stay tuned in as I will be posting lots of pictures/posts on Instagram.

Lots of love, v xxx
